Mara Sola (f.1975) Spanish visual artist based in Norway since 2012. Sola holds a B.A Honours Degree (2010) from G.M.I.T University Ireland. She was artist in residency at Sachaqa Art center in Peru (2015); Ajay Sharma School Jaipur (2014), exhibited in Studio17-Stavanger (2014), Inngang, Rogaland Kunstsenter (2013), Dublin Contemporary (2011). Mara was awarded as Emerging Artist by Visual Arts Ireland (2010). She is a member of NBK and BKFR.
Sola's main medium is painting, but she also applies other media. To date her work has been influenced by the notion of alienation and the feeling of not belonging to any place in particular. New locations and the personal response-awareness to new surroundings have challenged her with questions on qualities and different levels of consciousness and the construction of self, leading to contemplate transpersonal psychology as developed by Carl. G. Jung and others. With a shy and melancholic mood of alienation, silent adaptation and understanding of the inner worlds the paintings convey "dream-scapes" where the borders between real and surreal become ambiguous.
